As most of you know Project 52 is a weekly challenge that encourages us to try new techniques within the framework of a particular challenge. This week’s challenge is selective focus. The idea is isolate our subject whether it be by stopping down the apeture, the use of a specific lens such as a Lensbaby, or perhaps a telephoto lens to compress the image. One could even do this in Photoshop. The goal is that only our subject is to be in sharp focus and everything thing else blurry.
I selected a couple of photos to demonstrate selective focus. The kitty is my cousin’s cat, Lilly. Notice the shallow depth of field, i.e. the left eye is in focus whereas the right is soft. The second photo is of Luna and Maya. Again shallow depth of field using a long lens to compress the focus.

Next up in the rotation is Sharon Hardy of Sweet Potato Pet Photos in Los Angeles and see what she focused on.
